Job Description:

Landscape Designer III

Position Overview

We are seeking a confident and motivated Landscape Designer III with approximately two years of professional experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility, independence, and leadership within project teams. In this role, you will apply strong design and technical skills to develop high-quality work, evaluate design and planning options, and communicate your recommendations clearly to clients, agencies, and internal teams.

The Landscape Designer III is expected to work with increasing autonomy, provide guidance to junior staff, and contribute positively to the culture and success of the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop landscape designs, plans, and supporting documents with a high degree of accuracy and minimal revisions.
  • Confidently utilize key design, drafting, planning, and other software tools required to complete project work.
  • Evaluate multiple design, planning, or policy options and recommend appropriate solutions based on project goals and requirements.
  • Clearly communicate design decisions, recommendations, and technical information through reports, presentations, drawings, and other project deliverables.
  • Take ownership of assigned portions of projects and manage tasks independently while meeting established schedules and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, consultants, and other project stakeholders with appropriate guidance from project leadership.
  • Provide mentorship, design feedback, and technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Review work and help identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers and multidisciplinary team members to support successful project delivery.
  • Identify challenges proactively and develop thoughtful, practical solutions.
  • Represent the firm professionally in client, agency, consultant, and industry interactions.
  • Participate in professional organizations, networks, and other opportunities that support continued professional growth and industry engagement.
  • Consistently demonstrate initiative, reliability, and accountability without requiring frequent direction or reminders.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and help set the standard for collaboration, communication, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate and embody the organization's Core Values in daily work and interactions.
What Success Looks Like

Success as a Landscape Designer III means being a reliable and increasingly independent contributor who can take ownership of significant portions of a project and consistently deliver high-quality work.

You are trusted to make informed design and technical decisions, explain your reasoning, and seek guidance when appropriate. You contribute beyond your individual assignments by mentoring junior staff, supporting the project team, and helping create a collaborative and productive work environment.

You actively invest in your professional development, build relationships within the industry, and consistently demonstrate the Core Values through your actions, communication, and approach to your work.

Qualifications
  • Approximately 2 years of professional experience in landscape design, planning, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with key software tools used for landscape design, planning, drafting, documentation, and presentations.
  • Ability to independently produce high-quality designs, plans, and project deliverables with minimal revisions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate and communicate multiple design or planning options.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to present and clearly explain design decisions and recommendations.
  • Ability to coordinate with clients, agencies, consultants, and project stakeholders with appropriate guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide design or technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Ability to manage assigned project responsibilities independently and reliably.
  • Active interest in professional development and participation in professional networks or organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, initiative, accountability, and the organization's Core Values.
